Delegations to the 28th Pan American Sanitary Conference of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) closed the week with a “Heart Healthy lunch” at noontime. The lunch and the Conference were held during the week of 17 – 21 September, which coincides with Wellness Week, being celebrated throughout the Region of the Americas.

Chile and Jamaica were elected new members of the Subcommittee on Program, Budget, and Administration (SPBA) to replace San Vincent and the Grenadines and Venezuela as outgoing members of the Executive Committee.
The two new countries join El Salvador and the United States, ongoing members of the SPBA. PAHO Director Dr. Mirta Roses Periago thanked San Vincent and the Grenadines and Venezuela for their work and contributions to the Committee.
Peru was designated as the chair of the 151st session of the Executive Committee, which opened today.
PAHO Director Dr. Mirta Roses Periago thanked the outgoing chair, Venezuela’s Miriam Morales, because during her term she held the additional responsibility of managing the electoral process for the new Director of the Pan American Sanitary Bureau.
“In this Organization, there are never those who are victorious or defeated. The winner should always be good health for all the people of the Americas,” emphasized PAHO Director Dr. Mirta Roses Periago as the 28th Pan American Sanitary Conference concluded today.
